About Jeanie

Jeanie lives in Meredith with her husband of 30 years, Keith, and their three cocker spaniels, Sarah, Max, and Hershey.  They own a small environmental technology company.  Originally from Michigan, Jeanie is no stranger to individual responsibility and hard work—she learned firsthand from her parents.   Jeanie’s dad was a Korean War Veteran and worked for Ford Motor Tractor Division for nearly 40 years and her mom waitressed to make ends meet.

At the age of 21, with Michigan in a recession and laid off from work, Jeanie packed up her little blue Camaro and moved to Houston.  She landed a job as a secretary at Exxon and soon earned a reputation for being the first one in the office in the morning and the last one out.  Instilled with a solid work ethic from her parents, Jeanie worked full-time while taking courses at night to further her education and also taught Business English to co-workers through Houston Community College.

In 1985 Jeanie moved to New Hampshire and married Keith, a native of Hollis, NH.  She completed her Bachelors in Political Science with honors at the University of New Hampshire and went to work for Governor John H. Sununu.  While serving full-time on the Governor’s staff, Jeanie completed her MBA at the Whittemore School of Business & Economics.    Since then, Jeanie’s held senior and executive level positions from small business to the non-profit world.   More recently she’s served in Town Administrator positions in Tuftonboro and New Durham and as the Executive Director for two award-winning Main Street programs in Plymouth and Meredith.

As a Main Street professional, Jeanie helped create jobs and economic prosperity by attracting new businesses and new development to the community.  For example, she initiated a market analysis that identified needs in Meredith. The outgrowth of the study attracted investors and developers who revived a run-down shopping center.  The result was a new grocery store and a new sporting goods store, which strengthened the existing business core and created new jobs for local folks, revenue for the town, and products and services for the community.

A huge proponent of local control and involvement, Jeanie also attracted significant, consistent funding to support local programs and projects that benefitted businesses and residents.  She was instrumental in creating a school-to-work program that helped develop students and provide a much needed well-trained and educated workforce for the local business community.  In mid-May of this year, the Greater Meredith Career Partnership Program celebrated its 3rd year with 75 people attending the annual celebration.

The success of this award-winning public-private partnership is amazing.  In the 2009-2010 school year there were 24 student internships, 42 student job shadows, over 60 students and eight employers participated in Summer Employment Days, 13 local business people participated in the Speaker’s Bureau as classroom speakers, and two after-school “Employment & Intern 101” workshops were held for students interested in the Career Partnership Program.  Jeanie is especially proud of the fact that this program operates 100% through local funding and is made possible through the collaborative effort of teachers, school administrators, civic and nonprofit organizations, and the business community.

Volunteerism is very important to Jeanie.  She is currently Vice President of the Board of Directors for Franklin Business & Industrial Development Corporation and board member of the Lakes Region Symphony Orchestra, Greater Meredith Program, and Latchkey Charities.  She is a member of Americans for Prosperity, the NH Economic Development Association, Rakkasans 187th ARCT Association, the Wicwas Grange, Meredith Center and member of the Visiting Nurses of Meredith & Center Harbor.  She’s helped raise money for a variety of organizations including the Loon Preservation Committee and the NH Lakes Association.

Jeanie also volunteers for Community Caregivers (Meredith, Center Harbor, & Moultonborough) which provides supportive services to neighbors in need.   Caring, well-trained volunteers enable neighbors to remain living independently, with dignity in their own homes, achieve independence to their full potential, and enjoy caring support from their community.  She serves on the Meredith Capital Improvements Program Committee and is a past member of the Waukewan Watershed Advisory Committee, The Winnipesaukee Playhouse, and Altrusa.

Jeanie has a reputation and a history of success.  Ask anyone who knows her.  As business owner and community leader Rusty McLear describes, “Jeanie is a principled, pragmatic problem-solver.  She gets things done and Lord knows we need to get things done.”  After nearly 25 years of community service and involvement at the local level, Jeanie wants to bring her skills and expertise to Concord as your State Senator.
